I must apologize for the delay but I have only just returned to your group site.

Some weeks after my original post,I did secure a repair to the FT757, with very reasonable costs etc etc. She is now up and running a treat. I have now done the first part (signed off) and go to do second part of my foundation on Sept 15th.Perhaps at a later date we may well indeed have a contact, depending of course if I am succesfull.

Tnx again Chris G4LDS for your courtesy and 73s de Bernard

                                                                                  Bernard.vannuil@gmail.com

dear Mr Van Nuil,

i am sorry that you have not had a reply. there may have been several readings of your original post but they may not all have been in the uk o even n the north west. i personally have only just read your original post and this one. As you have logged on, I do not have your direct e-mail and thus aplogise for answering this way.

yes I hold a g4 license and have a background n electronics but these days of surface mount components, repairing and fault finding down to component level you require more specialised equipment like specialised extender boards to mount the pcbs in suito to gain access, a full esd work station an soldering iron station with specialised tips, maginifing glasses and headsets and the full service manual for the radio.

for example, one of my rigs developed a none transmit fault and as i do not have the above, i sent it off to one service company who located the fault to one board but did not have the full repair extender cables who then the rig off to another company whohad the full set up. the fault was a solder joint which only showed up after 6 years!!

talking to one repair shop, i find that big names also use them for repairs as its not cost effect to have a workshop set up not only for the new radios but some of the older ones.

now to fully answer your question, I do not know of anyone up here who might be able to help you however I would suggest that any that advertise in radcom or sprat would be worth talking to. i have talked to Castle and Adur comminications were very helpfu, hourly rates and postage etc was very reasonable.

i know that the listeners are also vital to this good hobby of ours and i wish you many more hours and years of enjoyment and maybe have the pleasure of talking one day to you.

Gentlemen ,and Ladies.

On the 2nd of June I posted on your site, and made a requrst for information on a matter of Radio repairs in your region.

I note that it had 92 views. Regardless of the groups attitude to non liscenced operators,I am saddened that none of the viewees had the courtesy or the professionalism to make any reply to said post. I also note that within your ranks, that there are a number of G0s and G4 members, and I am most surprised that none of those Gentlemen made any comments ,wether it be detramental or informative to me.

In my original post ,you may see that I am not a youngster,so I assume that your M3 and M6 and EO ops may think that the hobby is for those people only and us oldies are to be ignored.

In all my years of being amember of the RSGB it has always been the same,it seems that these prejudices are alive and well in your region also. It does your group no credit whatsoever to demonstrate this trait. Those of you who read my original post have probably walked past me and my colleague at the Blackpool and other rallies..

No matter!, I will keep trying to source a repair to my FT757 by other avenues. It seems as when the older members become silent keys , the courtesy and goodwill and politeness also become silent. Enjoy your hobby Gentlemen and Ladies,I most certainly will try to. Mr Bernard Van Nuil(RS 94334)

Sir/Madam.

Forgive me for encroaching on your site, but I am trying to find a repairer in the north.

My Name is as Email,I am 71 and am NOT an amateur, although I have been a member of the RSGB for many years (RS 94334). I have purchased an old FT 757 so I can become a ticketed operator but the recieve on FM is deaf,in fact it,s dead.

Question!!...Is there anyone in your area who could repair this radio?. As I understand it there are two small components that have gone down ,which is the root of the problem.

I reside in the north of Cumbria so if I could get a repair done Semi local it might keep the postage costs down. Can you offer any advice?if so it would be much appreciated.

Mny Tnx for your time!.......................73s

I am sure you will be fine on the exam. We all start feeling we failed it after a while Hopefully the results will not be too long.

Regarding the rig, Have you checked 12v coming in to the rig? Quite often there is a protection diode as the power enters the rig in case of polarity reversal. Fine on the other rigs though, good stuff! Not done much in the way of PMR conversion for many years. What are the mods you talk about?

Hopefully I will get the result I want, I think if I've failed it I need some more work, there again, I didn't put as much in as I should have as I'd only given myself 3 weeks of study to get there. I've fired of Kev an email.

Funny enough someone has just emailed me offering me some 4m FM1000's on 4m without the PA4DEN modifications So I am going to pick on of those up for the experement as well

Hi guys. Chuck W7MAP/5 here. Wondering if anyone here, or perhaps you may know of someone, that may be interested in joining a team for CQWW? Team members are required to operate as single ops and can submit their scores to any club as if not in a team, but scores are agregated into a team score. The theme of this effort would be Wire Antennas. I am attempting to put a five member group together to compete with no more antenna than wire ones. All that is necessary is agreement beforehand and adding a team name to the log submittal. Team Vertical did it. Why not team wires? Thanks for reading and best, Chas W7MAP/5.

On friday we had our visit from a very nice man from OFCOM who was able to visit our neighbours and confirm the BT Homeplugs were the cause of the interference. He also visited another local amateur who is experiencing the same problems. OFCOM are now starting to get alot of complaints about these devices and seem to be taking the matter seriously. Please have a listen on 5mhz and other shortwave frequencies to see if you are indeed affected and, if you are, report the matter. The more this problem is brought to attention the better chance we have of not making the situation worse for the HF bands!!

As you know we are suffering from interference on the HF bands from next doors BT Vision system which uses devices to send data round the home electrics. It radiates over 200m and makes 5 megs unusable and causes noise on other bands!
It is important we all stick together before devices like these make the bands unusable, if it does not affect you now it could well do shortly.
Have a look at this youtube video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S__UBDaL-aE

This newsgroup is trying to do something about it and needs peoples support!

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/UKQRM/
